Core Material
Our core material is uniquely formulated to offer the highest possible thermal insulation capability at both atmospheric pressure and when under high vacuum. Traditional VIP designs must compromise between using materials that either perform well under vacuum, but require a high vacuum to maintain their thermal insulation properties, or using core materials that perform well at near atmospheric pressure and only moderately well under high vacuum.
The graph below shows the comparative thermal performance of various materials at different pressures. Glass fibre achieves the best performance but requires a very low pressure to achieve it making it susceptible to leaks and poor performance over a longer lifespan. Whereas, fumed silica has traditionally been used for long lifespan applications requiring moderate performance.

CG MaxThermic core material is a specially formulated alkaline earth silicate glass wool, that has the insulating properties of fumed silica at atmospheric pressure and that of high grade glass wool at high vacuum. Thus when combined with our proprietary desiccant system, it is able to offer equivalent lifespans to fumed silica and the performance of glass fibre.
